Aquiring High Quality 3D Data
Why not Google Maps?
Digital 3D data is the foundation of every model we produce, from the CUBE to the WALL. We often get asked why we can't use Google Maps?
There are several reasons for this, but in short, it's the wrong type of data. Google Maps utilizes scans based on satellite imagery, which are then textured - this means images are overlaid with images to show colors. The imagery actually conceals that the underlying data is very bumpy and uneven, making it unsuitable for 3D printing or any kind of production.
In several cities, Google data is unavailable. Take Dubai, for instance, which is represented solely by a flat image in Google Earth.
It's important to note that even if the data were usable, its use would still be definitively illegal.
That's when we came up with CITYSCLUPT!
The solution: Merging technology with manual skill
CitySculpt Process
Urban Layout Plan
The process starts with 2D urban blueprints. By utilizing fundamental open-data layout plans we outline the model areas and determine necessary data sources for generating the 3D data.
Looking down on the ISS
The satellites that capture the data for our models fly twice as high as the International Space Station, yet still produce crystal-clear data. By having access to the latest innovations from Airbus, NASA, and ESA, we are able to purchase very high-quality datasets that serve as the perfect base for our 3D city models. We use combinations of multiple datasets, depending on the density, topography and location of the city.
Time for manual skill
Cities are diverse and complex, which is why we now hand over the datasets to our skilled 3D data artists. The generated buildings are manually cross-referenced against sources such as Google Maps or building plans. We reconstruct missing structures, enhance details, and track upcoming developments. Additionally, we add parks, bridges, landmarks, railways, bodies of water, docks, elevated roads, highways, pathways, and statues to our models.
The unique miniature look
In the final step, we prepare and optimize the cities for 3D Printing. This is when the miniature look of our cities truly comes to life. By the time our models are ready for production, they are not just representations of urban landscapes, but vibrant miniatures that reflect the unique atmosphere and character of each city.Below you can find some before / after examples of the 3D data creation with CitySculpt.

Our available cities are part of the CITYFRAMES collection. Each mapped area has been carefully curated to include the most iconic landmarks and defining urban features, resulting in a highly recognizable and balanced representation of the city.
Compared to the CUBE format, GRAND models are produced at a larger scale and cover a significantly wider urban area. This allows the model to capture more of the city’s layout while maintaining precise architectural detail.
The scale is intentionally selected to provide the optimal balance between coverage and detail. Most collection models are created at scales between 1:2000 and 1:3500, ensuring a cohesive and refined city composition.
Custom City
A Custom City is individually engineered around your chosen location. You define the exact area and scale. We build the model specifically for you.
Using our proprietary process, we generate highly detailed digital 3D data based on the latest satellite imagery, spatial datasets, and advanced modeling techniques.
Scale selection is fully flexible:
- Larger scale ratios such as 1:5000 allow you to include a wider urban area.
- Smaller scale ratios such as 1:1000 focus on a more compact area while significantly increasing architectural detail.
After your order is placed, we begin the dedicated data creation process. This phase is complex and can take up to 3 weeks depending on current data production volume.
Before production begins, you will receive a digital preview for approval.
Please note that previews cannot be provided before an order is placed. The digital modeling process is time intensive and is carried out specifically for your selected area after purchase.
About the GRAND
The GRAND is our largest and most exclusive city model. A statement piece crafted to last for decades. Each edition is individually numbered, engraved, and signed to certify authenticity.
Created through our CitySculpt process, every GRAND begins with satellite 3D data, then refined by hand to capture the unique character of the city.

Materials
Each model is crafted from a biodegradable, corn-based material and defined by its matte, plaster-like texture. This carefully considered surface interacts with light to reveal subtle depth and detail, giving the city a calm and sculptural presence.
Combined with solid wood frames and a range of refined finishes, the materials are selected not only for quality, but for their ability to complement a wide variety of interiors.
3D Data
Every model begins with carefully selected, high-quality data, forming the foundation for everything that follows. Through our CITYSCULPT process, this complex information is refined and interpreted to create a clear, cohesive representation of the city.
Shaped by both technology and craftsmanship, the result is a level of detail that feels intentional and considered, capturing not just the structure, but the essence of each place.

We offer fast & reliable shipping. Products will be sent out based on the estimated dispatch time provided on the product page.
GRAND will be delivered fully assembled on a disposable pallet with a freight forwarding company (EU) or DHL Express (non-EU). The delivery date can be scheduled prior to the delivery.

Packaging
Every GRAND model arrives in a custom-built wooden crate, designed for secure, worldwide shipping. Mounted on a disposable pallet, the packaging is robust and thoughtfully engineered, requiring no tools to open.
Once the lid is lifted, the model is revealed in full, ready to be taken out and admired from the very first moment.
Mounting
The GRAND can be displayed either on a wall or placed on a surface. When wall-mounted, you can choose between a horizontal or upright orientation. Each solid wood frame comes with integrated brackets to support both options.
Depending on the city, the GRAND weighs between 10–15 kg. For safe installation, we recommend using strong screws with suitable wall plugs. If you are unsure, please seek professional assistance to ensure secure mounting.
Care
Caring for your GRAND is simple. A gentle stream of air removes dust from the model, while the frame can be maintained with a soft cloth. Learn more in our Cleaning Guide.
Designed to last, custom magnetic fittings hold larger buildings securely in place while allowing them to be easily removed and replaced if needed. This ensures precise alignment, lasting durability, and peace of mind over time.
